Finance Leader Job Description
The Finance Leader is a critical role responsible for overseeing all financial activities of the organization. This individual will be a strategic partner to senior management, providing financial insights and guidance to support business growth and profitability.
Key Responsibilities
- Financial Planning & Analysis: Develop and manage the annual budget, forecast financial performance, analyze variances, and provide recommendations for improvement.
- Financial Reporting: Prepare accurate and timely financial statements in accordance with GAAP or IFRS. Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations and reporting requirements.
- Accounting Operations: Oversee the day-to-day accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and payroll. Ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial data.
- Internal Controls: Establish and maintain strong internal controls to safeguard company assets and prevent fraud. Implement and monitor compliance with company policies and procedures.
- Treasury Management: Manage cash flow, banking relationships, and investments. Develop and execute strategies to optimize working capital.
- Strategic Leadership: Provide financial expertise and guidance to senior management on strategic initiatives, including mergers and acquisitions, capital investments, and new product development.
- Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and develop a team of finance professionals. Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Risk Management: Identify and assess financial risks, and develop strategies to mitigate those risks.
- Compliance: Ensure compliance with all applicable tax laws and regulations. Manage tax planning and compliance activities.
- Audit Management: Manage the annual audit process and maintain strong relationships with external auditors.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. MBA or CPA preferred.
- Minimum of 7-10 years of progressive experience in finance, with at least 3-5 years in a leadership role.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and internal controls.
- Proven experience in financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency in financial software and ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, NetSuite).
- Experience in a specific industry (e.g., manufacturing, technology, healthcare) is often preferred or required.
