Finance Leader Job Description

The Finance Leader is a critical role responsible for overseeing all financial activities of the organization. This individual will be a strategic partner to senior management, providing financial insights and guidance to support business growth and profitability.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Planning & Analysis: Develop and manage the annual budget, forecast financial performance, analyze variances, and provide recommendations for improvement.
Financial Reporting: Prepare accurate and timely financial statements in accordance with GAAP or IFRS. Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations and reporting requirements.
Accounting Operations: Oversee the day-to-day accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and payroll. Ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial data.
Internal Controls: Establish and maintain strong internal controls to safeguard company assets and prevent fraud. Implement and monitor compliance with company policies and procedures.
Treasury Management: Manage cash flow, banking relationships, and investments. Develop and execute strategies to optimize working capital.
Strategic Leadership: Provide financial expertise and guidance to senior management on strategic initiatives, including mergers and acquisitions, capital investments, and new product development.
Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and develop a team of finance professionals. Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Risk Management: Identify and assess financial risks, and develop strategies to mitigate those risks.
Compliance: Ensure compliance with all applicable tax laws and regulations. Manage tax planning and compliance activities.
Audit Management: Manage the annual audit process and maintain strong relationships with external auditors.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. MBA or CPA preferred.
Minimum of 7-10 years of progressive experience in finance, with at least 3-5 years in a leadership role.
Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and internal controls.
Proven experience in financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Proficiency in financial software and ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, NetSuite).
Experience in a specific industry (e.g., manufacturing, technology, healthcare) is often preferred or required.
